Thanks for helping make community forums a great place. Looking at backing up a file server with DPM 2012 SP1.
Is there any way to get the previous versions client to work through a junction point on the file system? Config looks like this. D: D: ShareName contains Directory Junctions that point to the users directories on vol1 or vol2. D: Vol1 foldernameis a mount point to disk (contains user directories) D: Vol2 foldername is a mount point to disk (contains user directories) Everything backs up correctly by the mount points but I can't seem to see previous versions. I can see previous versions if I share out the D: vol1 foldername directory and map directly to it, but nothing if go via the directory link in d: sharename.
Any way around it? Thanks Homer. In a machine running Windows XP Professional SP3, I redirected the system folder ' Windows Installer', using a junction point to a folder in a directory tree of a different disk. The operation was done and checked using 'Junction v1.06 - Windows junction creator and reparse point viewer' released in 2010 by Mark Russinovich. I moved all the files and subdirectories contained in the original ' Windows Installer' into the target directory (these files had been previously copied in a temporary directory, and after the move I verified that they were visible from the ' Windows Installer' folder opening the symbolic link with the Explorer). Then I launched a system patch, and I discovered that the installer of the software update removed the junction point that I created, deleted all the cache files contained in the target directory with the different substitute name, and recreated the ' Windows Installer' folder in the original disk.
I tested this behaviour a couple of times, installing different software applications and updates, so that I presume that it does not depend from the actual software that is being installed, but from the installer itself, that cannot manage a junction point for the 'Installer' folder. No warning is given before the deletion of the junction point and all its content. With a similar procedure I made two junction points for ' Windows Downloaded Installations' and ' Windows Microsoft.NET' and they operated correctly. In my understanding junction points do not work at boot, so it's impossible to redirect eg.: Windows Windows System32 Windows Config The ' Windows Installer' is not one of these cases, and it is not used at boot.
Is it possible to use a junction point to redirect the Windows Installer folder into a different disk/partition, or the installer will always delete all the files targetted in the substitute name? Greetings all, This is my current config: Using VMware Workstation 5.0.
I create a base.VMDK on a server share on the network. I modify the guest's.VMX to use a path on the local machine for the working directory. This saves me the space of the base.VMDK files. I only have to store config and snapshots locally. Unfortunately, now I need to move the base.VMDK files to a new server. I have done everything I can think of to get the snapshot to redirect to the new server share. I have even HEX EDITED the snapshot's 000001.vmdk, the.VMSD, the.VMX and the snapshot's.VMSN to point to the new server.
It's always 'can't find the parent disk.' I have quite a few (couple dozen) guests in this configuration. I know that Junction won't work over network shares.
So I the question is. Is there any way to redirect snapshots to point to a different parent.VMDK location? Message was edited by: CorwinO. We have a mixture of OES2 OES11 Lniux servers (completely patched). We are using Distributed File Services which have been running fairly well and have not had any reason to try to manage them recently. We are on iManager 2.7.5 and when we try to do any management of DFS (such as mange DFS site, or modify an existing junction point) iManager prompts for the server information which we can select a server, iManager just sits and eventually times out (after a long period of waiting for a response).
We have tried this from 3 or 4 different iManager servers (also tried version 2.7.4), with no success. According to On Windows Server 2008, the DfsrPrivate directory has been moved under the System Volume Information folder on the same volume. In fact, all replicated folders hosted on that volume have their DfsrPrivate folders at a consolidated location under the System Volume Information Dfsr Private folder on the volume. The following folder structure can be found under the System Volume Information folder: System Volume Information Dfsr Private Replicated Folder Id-Member Id Here Replicated Folder Id and Member Id are essentially GUIDs which uniquely identify each replicated folder on that member server. Additionally, a directory junction point is created under the replicated folder root with the same old name DfsrPrivate that now points to this new folder location under System Volume Information. The junction point also ensures that the DFS Management snap-in is able to work seamlessly while configuring both Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008 based DFS Replication servers.
The snap-in thus still shows Staging and PreExisting folders to be subfolders of the DfsrPrivate folder under the replicated folder root. Im not sure if these directory junction points provide back doors to the actual data.
So, if weexclude System Volume Information Dfsr Private pathsfrom scanning by theForefront ClientSecurity engine, can we remove the old paths: ReplicatedFolderRoot DfsrPrivate from the exclusion list in Forefront? Hi, Thanks for the post.
As we know, NTFS junction point is a feature of the NTFS file system that provides the ability to create a link to a directory. Based on my test, it will still scan the old paths: ReplicatedFolderRoot DfsrPrivate. So I recommend not removing the old paths. You never license a VM. One of the rights of Windows Server Standard is the right to run up to two virtual instances of Windows Server on the physical server which is licensed with Windows Server Standard. The right for two virtual instances is if you are running nothing but management applicationson the physical instance. If you are running some other service on the host, e.g. File services, then you have the right to run a single instance of Windows Server as a VM. Again, there is plenty of licensing information on Microsoft's www.microsoft.com/licensing site or you can contact a trained Microsoft licensing specialist to get your answers.: :.: :. Hi, For Junction point, the storage objects in references are separate directories and the junction can link directories on different local volumes on the same computer.
Unlike junction point, a symbolic link can also point to a file or remote server message block network path. In my opinion, Microsoft has one of the best security departments around. After all, they are one of the most attacked corporations and they deal with all the malware vendors constantly. They participate in all the same security circles that any of the other major malware vendors participate. The methodology they developed to train their programmers how to write secure code is now taught in universities.

Blocking USB, CD, etc. Is generally handled by group policies, not by malware protection agents, unless I have misunderstood your question.tim. We have a file server running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2. Shadow Copies are enabled for drive G:, storage space is allocated on another drive. Folder G: users share is shared as server users, folder G: users resources is linked there by an NTFS junction and is represented as G: users share resources.
Clients running Windows XP SP3 are able to see all existing previous versions of folders under server users resources, but all those versions appear to be identical to the current state of that folder. In line with that logic, for a file that positively was changed between subsequent copies, no previous versions are displayed at all. We did not try actually restoring folders from previous versions though. In contrast, by accessing files through server G$ users resources (i.e., bypassing the NTFS junction) we are perfectly able to see previous versions as they are expected to be. NTFS and share permissions seem to be OK since users are able to access shared files normally, the only issue being the strange previous versions behavior. I have read that SCSF doesn't like volume mount points, is this also true about junctions? Could anybody point to a workaround, except for entirely dropping the idea of mapping resources to shares using NTFS junctions?
I think this isn't a bug as this problem is described here: Quote: File servers containing mounted drives A mounted drive is a local volume attached to an empty folder (called a mount point) on an NTFS volume. If you enable shadow copies on a volume that contains mounted drives, the mounted drives are not included when shadow copies are taken. In addition, if you share a mounted drive and enable shadow copies on it, users cannot access the shadow copies if they traverse from the host volume (where the mount point is stored) to the mounted drive. For example, assume you have the folder E: Data Users, and the Users folder is a mount point for F:. You enable shadow copies on both E: and F:, you share E: Data as Server1 Data, and you share E: Data Users as Server1 Users.
In this example, users can access previous versions of Server1 Data and Server1 Users but not Server1 Data Users. Soo guys, Why would you ever use a junction point, they can only point to something on a local volume, they can only point to folders and symbolic links can do everything that they can. Now at first i thought ok so symlinks are softlinks, maybe junction points are hardlinks, but they not, they dont are still a Reparse Point which means that its handled by a file system filter and doesnt alter the MFT in the way that hardlinks do, also i see in Windows that there are two junction points off the top of my mind: There is a junction point that directsthelegacy C: Documents and Settings to C: Users. There is also a junction pointthatdirects the old C: Users Default User folder to C: Users Default folder. But then why in the world use a symlink to link C: Users All Users to C: Program Data why not use a junction point, better yet why not make them all into symlinks. All Microsofts documentation is veryconvolutedon this matter, also i know that you can use a symlink to link to an SMB share.
WHAT ARE THE MEANING of the junction points, why they no use symlinks? Hi, As this thread has been quiet for a while, we assume that the issue has been resolved. What about sql server 2008?, can I execute the 2008packages using Microsoft SQL Server 100 DTS Binndtexec.exeon windows server 2012? Hi iamsqler, You are right that SQL Server 2005 is not supported on Windows Server 2012. Besides, to make SQL Server 2008 up and running on Windows Server 2012, you need to apply the Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008. Yes, you are able to execute SSIS 2008 package via Microsoft SQL Server 100 DTS Binn dtexec.exe utility. You can also use this dtexec utility to execute SSIS 2005 package, however, it actually performs In-Place upgrade for the package to SSIS 2008 format before the package execution and won't save the changes.
To upgrade the existing SSIS 2005 packages to SSIS 2008 format, open SSIS 2005 projects in BIDS 2008, or add SSIS 2005 packages to a SSIS 2008 project, or Use the SSIS Package Upgrade Wizard to open a SQL Server 2005 Integration Services project. Reference: Regards, Mike Yin TechNet Community Support. Hello, I have a Win2k3 R2 server with a few patitions on it. Partition F: SHARES with share Departments is running out of space, so another disk with partition H: has been added. On F: drive, I have a number of department shares with seperate access permissions set which works fine. Since Marketing is the greather space-spender, I have created a junction point from F: Departments Marketing pointing to H: Marketing with appropriate permisssion on both the junction point and the target folder.
What isthoubleing me is this: When I open myserver Departments Marketing, I can view, create, delete, modify files and folders etc. When I map the network drive M: to the same path myserver Departments and browse to the junction point Marketing (which is actually the same path as opened above,I don't have any access to create, delete etc., and get the error Destination folder access denied: You need permission to perform this action Why don't users have the same access to the junction point when mapping the network share as when accessing it directly typing the path? And what is the solution?
Any useful ideas are muchappreciated:-/. I 'm hoping someone can help me with this.
I am having a problem where any DFS junction I make is broken. Background - I have a single tree environment, with a single OES server in it. I have made a management context using the root of the tree. Have two nss pools, Pool1 = 8tb, Pool2 = 2tb (basically I 'm trying to use DFS to get around the 8tb pool limit). I create a DFS junction point using imanager somewhere in Pool1, which points to somewhere in Pool2. Imanager reports that the junction point was created successfully.
The junction point shows up as a folder on my windows client, but when I try to open it I get the message v: testjuction refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network.
Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location. When I do an ls -ali in the folder where I created the junction point on my OES server, it shows the link as being broken. I have recreated my management context, and my junction points, repaired my vldb, all to no avail. Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated! Thanks much, Taylor Hammerling.

Now Exchange 2013 SP1 is released that supports Windows 2012 R2 but we can not upgrade Windows 2012 to Windows 2012 R2 while Exchange 2013 running on server. At this point if we decide to upgrade Windows 2012 to R2 we may need to uninstall Exchange 2013 and then upgrade Windows 2012 to R2 and then re-install Exchange 2013 re-configure and re-test. We have 6 mailboxes and 4 CAS servers. I was just wondering is there any real benefit anyone can think of that we upgrade from Windows 2012 to R2? Or I can just keep running Windows 2012 with Exchange 2013? Any thoughts?
Thanks, Raman. I have SQL Server 2005 Enterprise SP2 64-bit installed on a failover cluster. Im planning to upgrade directly to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit. I have database datafiles on Mount Points - NTFS Junction Points. So far, I havent seen any mention of issues regarding NTFS Junction Points or mount points.
Has anyone performed this upgrade or do you know of any issues upgrading SQL Server 2005 to 2008 R2 with database data residing on NTFS Junction Points? The OS is Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 SP2.
Even though I have no idea how to create a new namespace in VB2010, I created a new VB Windows Form app and added a new Class into which I pasted the above code. I then added a few buttons and labels to the form, along with a bit of code to test the basic functions provided above.
Sadly, every test (to create, delete or test a junction point) failed after throwing an exception of one type or another. The only test that sort of worked was the creation of a junction point, in that the code actually created the point, and with the correct target, before throwing the exception. The bad news is that the code above is so deep that I have no way of diagnosing the problems it's showing. Please can someone used to working at this level take a look and tell me how to correct these issues. FWIW, I tried to insert the code from my test app Form below, but your forum s/w just mangles it up by adding many blank lines making it unreadable. Even using the insert code block button above did nothing. Thanks in advance for any help with this, Ro.
I have a domain with 2 DCs running on Server 2008 R2. The functional level of the domain is Server 2003 for legacy reasons.
Raising it is a planned task. However, I don't want to introduce change into a system that is not working as expected.
I recently noticed that GPOs are not replicated between the two DCs. I get a lot of Event ID 13508 errors without trailing 13509. Additionally frsdiag reports ERROR: Junction Point missing on c: windows sysvol sysvol ERROR: Junction Point missing on c: windows sysvol staging areas on both DCs. What puzzles me is the fact that both junction points do exist on both servers. I checked using these two articles: A lot of people recommended but according to this articles, junctions points must be valid before continuing operation. Besides, I don't know which DC to use for setting D4, since both DCs seem to be affected.
There are a lot of good articles on the net about that topic, but everybody seems to be happy after creating the missing junction points. I do have these junction points and still get the errors described. I do not know how to continue or where to look. Any help is appreciated.

Why Application Data folder is not accessible Question When I access the Application Data folder with administrative privilege on my computer, I get an error message Access is denied. Answer Note: This FAQ is based on discussions from a previous forum thread ( Accessing Application Data in Windows 7 ). Thanks to Ronnie Vernon and other participants' information sharing.
In Windows Vista or later Operating Systems, the default location of user data has changed. The Application Data folder is not an actual folder. It is a Junction Point for backward compatibility. A Junction Point is a physical location on a local hard disk that points to another location on that disk or another storage device. It is essentially a shortcut. You might have noticed when clicking on a folder in Windows Explorer with a shortcut icon shown on it (a Junction Point ), you get an Access Denied error message.
This is to be expected. By default, the Read permission for Junction Points is set to Everyone Deny. You are not supposed to access these folders, and there really is no reason to access these folders. If you want to know where are those Junction Points pointing to. You can track down the real location of the files by running the command dir /aL to display all the Junction Points and the locations that the Junction Points refers to. For example: If you want to track down all Junction Points on C: drive, please locate C: drive and enter the following command: C: dir /aL /s More Information For more information on Junction Points, click the following links to view the articles: Junction Points and Backup Applications Junction Points Junction Points in Vista Applies to Windows 7 Starter Windows 7 Home Basic Windows 7 Home Premium Windows 7 Professional Windows 7 Ultimate. Hi, We can find a lot of articles for migrating from Windows Server 2003 to 2008 or 2008 to 2012, but little article for migrating from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012. Thus it may not supported to directly migrate Windows 2003 to Windows 2012. Here are several articles about migrate failover cluster: Best practices for migration of cluster windows 2008 R2 / 2012 How to Move Highly Available (Clustered) VMs to Windows Server 2012 with the Cluster Migration Wizard Migrating Cluster Settings from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 Step-by-Step Guide http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754481(v=ws.10).aspx. Hello, I am having an issue with the junction points redirecting the documents and settings path.
I have seen many threads about similar issues and have yet to see a response that is not a workaround. This post is a request for a FIX. I have figured out my own workaround but it is my belief that most of the community would like a FIX for this issue I understand that these junction points are meant to redirect programs to the new file structure, but when the redirection feature of these junction points is nonfunctional (or only partially functional) it becomes a serious issue. For example, if maya2010 automatically saves a file into documents and settings%username% tmp filename.mb. From what I understand of the junction point functionality (and I admit, maybe I'm wrong, but this is what I got from Microsoft Customer Service), it should appear in c: Users%username% tmp filename.mb. Same issue for any path that would ask for a new folder to be created. What happens is that this folder is created INSIDE the junction somehow and never makes it to the output directory.
Please understand that this only occurs on automated processes that ask to create an additional folder within the documents and settings%username% path. I have spoken to both autodesk and microsoft support and both services claim the other is at fault. I am not a ping-pong ball and I am sick and tired of being passed around because no-one is willing to take responsibility for this screw-up. I am not impressed with the performance of this feature or your customer service and will switch to Linux or MacOS in the near future if this issue is not fixed. I have just spent over 4 hours manually editing the config files for all my 3d applications because all of them were suffering from this issue. This makes me a very angry man.
Please fix this issue in one of your updates as soon as possible as this is ridiculous. Hi Gretchen-How are you determining these readings? Are you reading in MAX or LabVIEW (or other means)? Are you sure that your configurations for thermocouple type are correct in MAX?
I would also suggest that you try your thermocouple readings with a different thermocouple to make sure the problem lies in the FieldPoint hardware or connections and not with the thermocouple itself. The CJC sensor is just a thermistor embedded in the terminal base, so it doesn't need to really be calibrated. If you would like to verify its specifications you can use these steps:Using a DMM, measure the resistance between pins B34 and B35 on the terminal base. These pins are the two right-most pins on the center row when the terminals are towards you. If you are using compact FieldPoint, this measurement can be made within the CB-3 terminal block. At the same time, measure the temperature of the heat sink (the metal bar across the top of the screws) on the terminal base (TB-3). You should be using a TB-3 for its isothermal design, but if not you would have to measure air temperature (which would be less accurate).Convert the resistance to a temperature using a conversion table for a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor with 5k Ohm @ 25 C, +/- 0.2 C. You can also find a conversion table at several of the vendors web sites also listed in this KnowledgeBase. The CJC sensor should be within +/- 0.5 C.To verify the connections of your thermocouples you should consult the FP-TC-120 and cFP-TC-120 Operating Instructions.
You should connect each of your signals to the appropriate IN(+) and IN(-) pins on the connector block. If these suggestions do not help please give us a better idea of exactly how you're connecting and monitoring your thermocouples and CJC channels.Thanks- Tom WNational Instruments. 1est Hi, Having problems in a HOME NETWORK setting FROM machines running either WinXP (SP3) or Win2k (SP4) getting 'READ and execute' access to the 'C: Users All Users' (ALLUSE~1) SYMBOLIC LINK (TARGET= C: ProgramData) on a machine running Win7. Hi, I don't know about SharePoint but I know about Exchange, there will be NO direct migration between Exchange 2003 (SBS 2003) and Exchange 2013 possible, so you need to first migrate to Exchange 2010 and then migrate to Exchange 2013.
And to make it more complex, at this moment you cannot migrate from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 at all, because Exchange 2010 must be SP3 (which isn't available yet)to migrate to Exchange 2013. So this problem is for everyone at this time the only option to go to Windows Server 2012 with Exchange will be a Clean installation.Regards Ronny ------------- Visit my Blog or follow me on Twitter. I have a problem with the Visual Studio Upgrade Wizard (on both Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010) as I very commonly use junction points for linking to directories containing subprojects: If the Upgrade Wizard finds a subproject in a subdirectory linked using a junction point or a symbolic link, it immediately deletes the junction point or the symbolic link before even starting the upgrading. This is very annoying because, as the Visual Studio 2010 project file format has completely changed from Visual Studio 2008, I expect to recurrently use the Upgrade Wizard for synchronizing between Visual Studio 200x and Visual Studio 2010 project files that I need to maintain and modify concurrently. Steps to reproduce: Open Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 (without any solution). Select New - Project.
Choose Project Type, for example Win32 project. Choose project name: Upgrade_Wizard_Bug_Prj.
Select a directory for creating the project/solution. Choose solution name: Upgrade_Wizard_Bug_Sln. Make the option Create directory for solution CHECKED.
Click Ok, and Terminate. Close the solution.
Go inside the Upgrade_Wizard_Bug_Sln directory (using Windows Explorer). Create a new directory inside it: for example test. Move the whole directory Upgrade_Wizard_Bug_Prj (with contents) inside the test directory. Copy the whole solution directory with files and subfolders on another computer with a more recent version of Visual Studio installed (you can bypass this if you have a more recent version of Visual Studio installed on the same computer). Next we will work with the copy.
Create a junction point (or alternatively a symbolic link on Windows Vista or Windows 7) from the new Upgrade_Wizard_Bug_Prj to the old location, in order to make it like if the original Upgrade_Wizard_Bug_Prj was still there. This can be done using linkd, mklink, Junction (from Mark Russinovitch Winternals) or Link Shell Extension (I use the latter).
Now open Visual Studio 2008 or 2010 (anyone which is more recent than the previous one). Open, with this newer Visual Studio, the Upgrade_Wizard_Bug_Sln.sln solution file created with the older Visual Studio Version. (note that actual VS menu and command names may be a little different because here I am translating back from French) As the solution and project files comes from an older version, you can note that a wizard window opens for converting the project. At this point, even without proceeding with project conversion, you can verify that the junction point or symbolic link that you created before HAS COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED. Of course, if you try to complete the conversion, there will be an error because the project directory will not be found.
I checked this now on Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 and Windows 7 Ultimate x64, but I think it would happen on Windows XP Professional SP3 as well (because I remember having had unexpected junction disappearing in Windows XP in the past that I now begin to understand better). So I would like to know: Is there any compelling reason for the Upgrade Wizard to delete junction points or symbolic links that it find in its paths? Is there a way for preventing the Visual Studio Upgrade Wizard from making this deletion? As a workaround, is there a way to set permissions on junction points or symbolic links for denying rights to Visual Studio Upgrade Wizard from deleting them, while still leaving full access to the linked directory contents? (I tried various methods for doing that but I failed in finding a working one. In that case, it is not evident to tell if permissions settings apply to the junction point or to the working directory, whereas in that case I very want to apply them to the junction point!) Best regards, Gilles Reeves.
Hello, I'm just learning failover clustering and I built my first cluster using two 2008 R2 nodes on domain controllers (I know this is not recommended for real servers but overall it's working for learning). I just noticed something strange, on node 1 the Sysvol seems to work fine, but on node 2 it's not working.
Somehow the Junction point in C: Windows SYSVOL sysvol mydomain.com was changed from C: Windows SYSVOL domain to F: Windows SYSVOL domain which does not exist (F: is a cluster drive). Any ideas on how/why this happened? I this something I should I fix it by changing or recreating the junction? I can only erase (shift-del) them (why no 'access denied' error in this case?). When i try to delete files i don't get this error at all. It's nice that there is a log of the backup. It'd be nicer to either have it human readable, or give us the utility to read it. Although at the end of one that I can tell, it says CSdBackupImpl::Run FAILED CSdAsync::OnRun FAILED. Due to a bug in Microsoft backup it is not possible to make a backup past a reparse point. Microsoft is aware of the problem and will provide a solution with the next SP. Although I was pretty much sure that the reparse point WAS the problem, I was extremely pissed off at the people that were talking like they knew something, when they obviously knew even less than what I know, and THEN marking their own answer as the correct answer. But this has now been going on for over two years.
Wasn't fixed in SP1, maybe it'll get fixed in SP2, but Windows 8 Consumer Preview will be out in less than a week now. It's not looking good for it to be fixed before Windows 8 comes out. I'll be loading Windows 8 Preview fast as I can, this system has already developed issues where programs freeze (at least Resource Monitor sees that it's happening, other monitor programs don't) from less than a second to a couple of minutes, sometimes consecutively. My wife's Windows 7 (home machine and work laptop) doesn't exhibit the same problems, so it's a bit rot issue. More documentation on Resource Monitor would be an excellent idea, especially describing what the blue lines are showing, and even changing the colors to something that shows up a little better, since that's the line that seems to be bouncing all over the place when the problem occurs. But that's not what this thread is about.
And it'll be fixed one way or another before the end of the week. Hello all, I am currently in the design phase of sccm 2012. I have a 2008 R2 64-bit server that replicates files to the file server in the main office. The problem is that I cannot access these sharesfrom DFS or elsewhere. When I look at the file structure of the DFS Shares folder, I see the juntion points for the DFS folders, and I see the actual file folders with folder names that appear to be prefixed by the folder's SID.
I can access the folders but not via the junction point. The file server in the main office is fine. Can anyone offer advice?
This is critical as our replication and access to the local DFSfiles in the remote office is non-functional. I've got severael Windows servers that throw exceptions during backup when Avamar 6.1encounters a junction point whose target doesn't exist. For example, the 'C: Users username Application Data' junction point that targets 'C: Users username AppData Local'.
If the target directory does not exist, Avamar throws: 2012-11-28 19:04:21 avtar Error 0000: Path 'c: Users username Application Data' not found. Verify that path exists on the system (Log #2) Does anyone have recommendations for mitigating this issue so that the job won't show up as 'Completed w/Exceptions'? Thank you in advance! I am trying to move my Users folder to another drive from my SSD drive using this procedure: Thisprocedure worked fine for me before, but I suffered a hard drive crash and had to reformat my system.
Now, when I attempt to execute this procedure, Windows doesn't resolve my junction point. The Users folder copies over, all fine and proper and the junction point appears to work fine inside the Windows Recovery Console (I can navigate in and around the junction using the command line), but when the computer is rebooted then I can't log in. When I restart in Safe Mode and attempt to navigate into the junction, Windows gives me an error, saying that it can't resolve the junction point! I've reinstalled and re-ran the procedure multiple times and the same result always occurs. I got this to work the first time, no problems. Now, Windows is jacking something up.
Can anyone help unjack it? Just so I understand: I realize that C: Users contains junction points to redirect software that saves files under the 'old' folder scheme.
There are junction points for the 'My' folders - My Documents, My Music, My Pictures and My Video - that point to the Documents, Music, Pictures and Video folders (even though Windows Explorer doesn't display the latter.) There's also an additional junction point for My Documents (it has the shortcut 'arrow' icon). Why is it there? Just asking, that's all. Thanks for your help. I want to thank you again for your help. After further research, I discovered that the My Documents icon with the arrow is actually a junction point, like the other icons with arrows in C: Users username.
I eventually found several web pages, including a question in the Windows 7 IT Pro Forums, that described the junction points in a Windows 7 user profile. I have a few.
1) Can you integrate the app-v Server client app-v client. Into a SINGLE client. And make the server a per package option. So when the service starts it auto loads all server packages. 2) Can you modify the packager to capture drivers, context menus, etc.
And put them in the MSI (with modified paths for context menus to point to the packages. It is already identifying these elements as non-virtualized so it seems like you should be able to capture these into the msi for local installation using the msi. 3) Can you modify the app-v client to use NTFS for the Q: drive instead of its special fs. (or add junction feature to this FS) This would allow 4G packages to be captured into multiple files.
And have a pre-execution script for the main package that mounts the packages together using junctions. Hi, Thanks for posting your question in the forum. I noticed that you have created the same question in another thread. How to install and configure the Indexing Service on a Windows Server 2008-based computerindexing with Windows 2012 as a file server?Regards, Ravikumar P. Has anyone performed this upgrade or do you know of any issues upgrading SQL Server 2005 to 2008 with database data residing on NTFS Junction Points?
Hi, For part of my current project, I need to be able to watch a set of directories for file creation/deletion/modification etc - not a problem,.NET provides me with FileSystemWatcher to do just that. This works 100% on a set of 'normal' directories such as:Users/testUsers/test2Users/test3and so on.Now alongside this 'normal' structure I have a similar directory structure that will 'map' to somewhere else on the filesystem. For example:Users/My FilesWill actually point to:Data/User/000234/aabc/The way that I have done this is to use NTFS Junction Points (symbollic links), which I create and delete through the win32 library. This completely abstracts this mapping from the user - so in the explorer address bar they see Users/My Files and not Data/User.etc.The problem is that fileSystemWatcher completely ignores these links. It works fine if I modify a file inside a 'real' folder, but if I try and do it through a Junction Point I get nothing.Anyone got any ideas?
Possibly an undocumented property or something that will force it to treat Junction Points in the same way that explorer does (ie as a real folder)?edit: I have worked around this for now by setting up multiple FSWs for each junction point that I create - but as I have 5 junction points it would be much easier (and more efficient) to just have 1 FSW monitoring the top directory.so any ideas/hints are still most welcome. Greetings all.
I may be trying to do something that is not supported, but I have broken a very large volume (2Tb) into 3 smaller volumes using DFS junctions. One server holds all three volumes which are NSS. The server is running SLES10SP3 and OES2SP3. My Windows workstations can follow the junctions and see all the files on the other volumes, but the few Mac workstations we have cannot, even when connecting to the junction volume via CIFS/SMB.
Has anyone tried this? Is it even possible? If so, does anyone have any ideas about why the Macs can 't see the files on the target volumes? On 21:36, kjhurni wrote: I can move this into the NFAP forums in case someone else knows the answer or how the Mac works with CIFS. Now as to the question of accessing DFS junctions from Mac OS X I think, since I 've not used this myself, that DFS support is not included in any current version of Mac OS X. A common proposed solution for 0x81000037 error codes during backup attemtps is to delete reparse/junction points, as described in The solution proposed in KB 205524 is to type 'linkd mydesktop /d' or 'Delrp mysdesktop ' at a command prompt.
However, when I try this I get is the message 'linkd' [or 'Delrp'] is not recognized as an internal or external comand, operable program or batch file.' Using the Junction Link Magic program, I have identified all the junction links on my computer. However, none of them refer specifically to 'mydesktop' and none have 'mydesktop' in their name.
The only junctions with 'desktop' in their name is the junction link 'c: ProgramData Desktop', which has a 'c: Users Public Desktop' destination. Is this the 'mydesktop' junction point that needs to be deleted? If not, what is the name of the junction link that needs to be deleted to enable me to backup my computer. Suggestions to get around this problem appreciated.
Noel, I was reading through a long thread in which you were helping someone with a problem relating to Junctions and being curious, I decided to run one of the commands you suggested on my Win 7 Pro system: dir d: /AL /S (on this system, most of Windows is installed on C: (a SSD) but the Program Data and users directories are on D: (a rotating drive)). Although most of the junctions looked reasonable to me, for some reason the Recycle Bin has within it a number of junctions that do not get removed when the Recycle Bin is emptied. These junctions appear to be related to a couple of user profiles that I created and then deleted. I can't imagine that these junctions within the RB are causing any problems, but it seemed curious enough for me to ask someone who seems to know about this topic. Hi, I setup Windows 2012 essentials and was setting up anywhere access. It said to modify router to port forward to server.
Currently those port forwards are pointing to our production server. So I skipped and went on ahead finish setting up. Today I received my new public IP, that I will port forward to the new server. I am unable to find where I need to input this new public IP. Currently AnywhereAccess is not working, because I feel it is pointing to the original IP and I would like to go into the settings and point it to this new public IP.
I have tested new Ip and it arrives at Remote Web Access Screen of Windows 2012 Server. But my xxxx.remotewebaccess.com comes up blank. There is no place where you set the public IP. If you choose to use the free remotewebaccess.com service, the IP address is updated by a dynamic DNS client. And it determines the public IP itself, much like visiting certainwebsites will show a page listing your public IP based on the IP address it received the page request from. So if you have multiple IP addresses on a single router, you will need to make sure you have configured a NAT rule on your router so outbound traffic from the dynamic DNS client uses the public IP address you want associated with the remotewebaccess.com domain name.
